With all the information presented to you often times you can get overwhelmed with how and where to start. How do you select a contractor? What questions do you ask to make sure you’re making the right decision? Here is some direction:

  • What is the style of your home? It is very important to stay true to the style of your home. The only exception here is if you are planning on remodeling the rest of your space. If you’re living in a traditional home but want a modern kitchen, you can have traditional as your foundation and build on that with modern finishes.
  • How do you come up with a budget? The first consideration in order to set a budget is the length of time you plan on being in your home. The next factor is wether you plan on remodeling it when you decide to sell your home.
  • Who do you hire? There isn’t such a thing as a bad contractor. There is truth in the contractor who fits the role and is capable of carrying it out.   •  How do you manage? Weekly site meetings with owner and contractor are a must. If you have an architect or designer, make sure everyone is on the same page with respect to schedule and budget.

One of the most important piece of advice is to enjoy the process. Yes it is possible to have fun with a major remodel. If you do the right due diligence in the beginning, you will set yourself up for success and a project that you will one day miss.
